I caught this video for the first time over on momentshowing. I thought this was a beautiful post. The creativity, the message, the sincerity. Thank you for sharing it. Thank you for reminding me that my vlog is mine and that what others say about it isn’t as important as what it means as my personal expression, story, voice and journey.

Good use of naptime. I was moved, and moved that my vlogger child very much wanted me to see this.

That was amazing. To be able to express an aesthetic, method and approach in pictures, words and sound, each complimenting and enhancing the other, underlining pictures with text, enhancing visual contrast with music. I stand (okay sit) in equal parts awed and inspired. I cried. Thanks.

This is one of those posts that touches me to the core. I am new to vlogging and have seen and heard from other vloggers their theory of what a vlog is. From their definition, I am not a vlogger. Today, your post taught me something. Am I doing this for them or for me?

hard to tell what causes the “oh yes” response i feel.
it is partly the transparency you offer us.
the raw sensibility, the journey shared so openly, the intellect and use of such an organic approach. it feels as if we share your world, with your perspective. more than seeing what you see, but getting to interpret it through you.

Thanks for the insight, thanks for writing on a candy wrapper, thanks for letting us all in a little more (whether you intended to or not), and thanks for not letting the sometimes restrictive and frequently ridiculous myriad definitions of “vlogging” get in the way of doing what you do. You do it because it’s what you do. It’s not what I do, it’s not what anyone else does. It’s yours!

And you do it really, really well.

Awesome post, and not in the “totally tubular” sense of “awesome.” It was very thought-provoking, without being overly pretentious.

It’s definitely one of those rare videos that hit you,
because it’s very direct and true, a personal narrative,
something I’ve been trying to make for a while, though
always fail to follow through with.

I think what is so enjoyable about this, is that you’re taking advantage of this precious time as a parent, the kid is asleep, how can I put something together from these two moments? and you arrive at this amazing solution, showing us images and revealing thoughts from that time taken, and it might be as close as we’re ever going to get to being inside your melon.

Thank you for such a reflective post. I find your vlogs to be far more meaningful to watch than drivel like RocketBoom. Her stuff is a group of people desperately trying to be funny, pithy, or entertaining. Your vlogs evoke the idea of someone just trying to be. And in that attempt to be, as you document bits of your life, you highlight the simplicity and profundity of life itself: the existential gift that God has given all of us. You needn’t defend yourself against critics who claim your vlogs aren’t real vlogs. On the contrary, I think you have most succinctly defined the genre in demonstrating the essence of what the content should be: life and the existenstial struggles. If it happens to be artsy, creative or has music it seems to me that, like writing a journal entry in pen or pencil or crayon or fingerpaint, is purely incidental.

Also, I remember feeling a heightened sense of wonder about life when my daughter was that same age as your daughter. Thanks for reminding me of that in your videos. I have hours of footage similar to yours of her explorations, machinations, mumblings, and the like that I have never edited. I am inspired to look at these “bits-o-life” in a new way now. Thank you.

I’m probably seeing this later than anyone… all I can say is “wow!” The naration, the writing, and the shots are all amazing.

I can’t believe these comments. I agree that the video was artistic, but where is the substance? The chocolate bar seemed to hold more of your interest than your baby. It wasn’t “real”. Nice work, though.
